The next IMPACT is happening on Wednesday, February 8 at CCC from 6:30PM until 9PM. IMPACT is a large group gathering for any student in grade 9-12. There will be live music, food to snack on, some fun competition, and opportunities to take step deeper into your relationship with Jesus and other students. Don’t forget to invite your friends. We will be wrapping up our Guardrails series together.

It's not what you're thinking. We are not going to play laser tag while riding on snow tubes, but that would be awesome. The girls are going snow tubing with their leaders, and the guys are going laser tagging with their leaders. If you're a middle school girl, here are the details for snow tubing:

You are meeting at CCC on Saturday, February 4 at 8 am. You are going to Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA, and the cost is $27 plus money for food. Leaders will be driving, and the estimated time of return to CCC is 8 pm. If you have any questions, email Holly Kruse at hollymkruse@gmail.com.

If you're a middle school guy, here are the details for laser tagging:

You are meeting at CCC on Saturday, February 4 at 11 am. You are going to Red Zone Adventures in Timonium, MD, and the cost is $25 . Leaders will be driving, and the estimated time of return to CCC is 6 pm. If you have any questions, email Ryan Arnold at ryan.arnold@communitycc.net.

CCC Student Ministry will host its first ever High School Bigger Better on Saturday, February 11. Students should meet at CCC at 11AM and be picked back up at 4PM. Bigger Better will test your ability to trade one small item for a Bigger Better item. The team that arrives back at CCC at 4PM with the Biggest Best item wins. Guardrails is a brand new series for students that kicks off this week! I really hope you can make it!

Why are we talking about guardrails you ask? Good question. Here we go…

Guardrails are “a system designed to keep something from straying into dangerous or off-limit areas.” Just like the guardrails we see on the roads we drive on every day, the guardrails we place in our personal lives are designed with a simple purpose, to create a useful barrier in order to protect us from a potential danger. We don’t often spend a lot of time thinking about or paying attention to them, but when we need them, we are very glad guardrails are there. In the same way that guardrails protect us on the road, when we establish them in our lives, they can help to both protect us and direct us. Most likely our biggest mistakes in life could have been avoided if we had guardrails steering us in the right direction. The goal should never be to see how close we can get to a guardrail without crashing but rather to respect their presence, keeping a safe distance from veering “too far,” in the wrong direction.

New Orleans - Final Day

Today wrapped up our final full day here in NOLA. The guys and girls both went to their work sites for one last hurrah. The guys finished hanging drywall and insulating the basement, while the girls went on a field trip to the Insectarium with their kids. (make sure you ask the girls about eating bugs)

Tonight we had the opportunity to share what God has been doing in our life with the other groups. It was a power time to see how God is moving.

Tomorrow we are going to head to the Zoo and grab one last Cajun meal before we head to the airport and home. See you at CCC at 10PM. If you want to pick up your student at the airport please give me a call. Ryan.

New Orleans Day 3

Today our schedule was a bit different. Instead of heading to the worksites in the morning we stayed at crossroads to do some work there. We mowed, weed wacked, washed cars, cleaned, etc. Then we headed into the neighborhood to hand out fliers about our cookout tomorrow. Then lunch kicked off our free time. We ate at a pizza shop in Uptown and then headed to a local pool to cool off. Hannah beat most of us in some swimming, although I showed them that I still had some juice left in me as well. After swimming we headed to the French Quarter and went on an adventure to find dinner that lasted almost 2.5 hours. We are pretty beat today. Have a good night and talk to you soon!

New Orleans Day Número Dos

Today was another hot, but productive day. The guys really got the hang of dry walling. We got to meet Richard, the man who owns the home we are working on. The girls continued go build relationships with the kids at the Desire Day Camp. For dinner we had Cajun sausage, beans and rice.

Tomorrow we will be working half the day and the spending some time enjoying the city. We plan to swim, explore the French quarter, take in some New Orleans treats and enjoy the park. Keep praying, see you soon!

Today was our first full day here in New Orleans. Wow, what an experience. I know I speak for our whole group when I say we were shocked with the overall need. Jess and the girls worked with a local ministry called Desire and helped run a kids day camp. They got to work some very underprivileged and appreciative kids. The guys went to do some drywall installation at a local home. Tonight we got to hear from a minister named Oscar about how groups like ours have been the change in the city since Katrina. Tomorrow we will head back to the worksites and jump back into the mix. Keep praying for us!

This past Sunday at CCC we wrapped up EPiC series call Incredible, where we looked at different miracles Jesus performed. Jesus has such great power, but sometimes we want to hold that kind of power ourselves. Just like the kid in this video, we want to be able to control everything ourselves. We will try relentlessly to control our future, our present and even our past. However, only God has the power to control those. It may be about time to hand over the Vader mask and put your trust in God.

The High School Winter Retreat is right around the corner. I can't think of a better way for a high school student to start off a new year than with the Winter Retreat. You get to spend the weekend with some of your closest friends in a house at Bethany Beach, DE all weekend. On September 24-26 CCC Student Ministry will have its 4^th annual Fall Retreat. This year the Fall Retreat theme is Revolution and is designed for both middle and high school students. The Fall Retreat is held at Camp Sandy Cove in High View, West Virginia. This Sunday, September 12, is the last day to register for $125. After Sunday the registration fee goes to $140. DR - Thursday

Yesterday was our last work day here in the DR. Early in the morning we traveled to Tina Jita, a small church in the mountains, where we assembled 5 of the pews we had constructed. I think our team is going to start a pew building company when we return to the States.

It was about an hour drive into the mountains, with some of the most breathtaking views we have ever seen. We came back to the house for lunch and then went to the green market to do some souvenir shopping. Some of you are getting some great gifts!

This morning we are traveling to the beach to celebrate a great week!

Day 4 DR

We just finished hanging out and singing some great musical hits of the 90's, what a fun day!

Today we were able to finish up all of our projects and are ready to head to the mountains tomorrow. We will be waking up extremely early and heading to assemble the pews at a church in the mountains.

Tonight we talked about Zacchaeus and how God went after him in the tree and how God is going after us. I hope that each student will go home this week with an opportunity to have met Jesus on this trip.

We also had the opportunity to give David and Virginia our gifts tonight. We are so grateful for all the things they have been doing for us.

DR Trip Day 3

Well Tuesday is coming to an end. Students are heading to bed and I am just finishing up our blog for the evening.

Today was another rainy day. Half of the group went to Pontezuela and the other half stayed back at the house to finish up cutting wood for our pews. After lunch the group who was working at Pontezuela was not able to return because it was too wet. We spent the afternoon finishing up the cutting for the pews. After dinner we took advantage of a small break in the rain and walked to the monument in the center of town. Tonight we had our group time and talked about the story of the woman with great faith from Mark chapter 5.

Day 2 here in the DR

It is Monday evening and everyone is heading to bed. Today we started painting the tin roof panels at Pontezuela and a group began cutting and preparing wood at the house for 10 pews we will be assembling in the mountains on Thursday.

Work went great all day. We did have to have the bus repaired during the day, so part of the group had to wait at the work site for David to make to runs back and forth to the mission house. Besides the bus troubles we also had to face some rolling rain storms as well. Even though the rain held us back from some work, it did help cool down the temperature for us.

For lunch we had an authentic Dominican meal cooked by Rosa (one of the maids at the house). It was so good! After dinner we had our group session. Tonight we talked about the story of the Paralytic meeting Jesus and how his life was forever changed. We talked about how our lives can be changed just like the Paralytic if we get rid of any roadblocks between us and Jesus.

After our session we had our new hair shearing tradition. 3 mo-hawks were made and one more haircut is being finished as I type.

We are having some trouble upload pictures and video, but they will be up in the morning. Until then, good night!

DR Trip Day 1

Hello parents, friends, and everyone else who may be reading tonight! It is the end of our first full day here in the Dominican. Last night we arrived into the airport around 12:45 AM and got to the mission house around 1:45AM. After unpacking and settling in everyone got to sleep around 3:30AM at the latest. this morning we were able to sleep in until about 10AM. We went out for lunch at the Expreso Jade Chinese Restaurant. After lunch we came back to the house to finish unpacking and settling in. We went to church at 4PM at Iglesia Christi Inc. Our experience at church was completely different than we are used to back at CCC. Both the guys and the girls were invited up to dance with some students from the church. What an experience!

After church we came back to the house for dinner and then our first team gathering. Our theme for the week is When People Meet Jesus. We will be looking at stories from the Bible and how people are radically changed when they have an interaction with Jesus.

We are really excited to get to the work site tomorrow to start putting church pews together finishing Pontezuela's roof and office.

"Do Something” is an opportunity for students grades 9 – 12 from CCC to regularly serve in their own community. “Do Something” happens every 3rd Sunday of the month and kicks off on Sunday, July 18th. Here is how it works:

Students show up at the 9:30AM service at CCC. When the 9:30AM service is over students and leaders will load up and head to that Sunday’s service location.

Next week when High School Small Groups kick off we will be starting a book series. The girls will be reading Confessions of a Not So Supermodel, a book about self image, relationship, peer pressure and so much more. The guys will be reading Duplicate This a book about taking this whole following Jesus things on the road and sharing it with our friends. High School IMPACT is happening this Wednesday evening, right here at CCC at 7PM. Make sure you dont miss this awesome night made just for high school student. We will be looking at the different choices we have in life, and how we can make good choices. Then we will be watching Invisible Children. A movie about child soldiers in Uganda. You wont want to miss this!

At EPiC on Sunday we found out that all the trash that we carry around with, all of the things we dont want to do but we still do anyway, can and should be taken out to the curb. The Winter Retreat : Aftermath

Well the Winter Retreat has come and gone. And I don't know about you, but I am still trying to catch up on my sleep. I know that when I come home from retreats like this I usually am on a mountain top feeling. A few days or weeks after that mountain top feeling begins to fade as real life sets back in.
Sometimes when we get home we remember all of the things we were dealing with when we left. Our friends come back into the picture, and they havent gone through what we just did.
So how do we keep ourselves feeling the way we are? First you can grab a Winter Retreat Post Packet at Small Group tomorrow night. This packet will have 7 weeks of resources for you to continue what we were doing at the retreat. Also, if you are not a part of a small group you should sign up. Small Groups is the place for you to really build authentic and meaningful relationships.
Don't get caught in the aftermath of the retreat.

Friday, February 19th will be the CCC Student Ministries first Middle School Lock-In. If you are a middle school student, grades 6-8, you will not want to miss this awesome night! There will be food, fun, games, and prizes. We will meeting at CCC at 8:00pm with the doors locking behind us. The doors will not opening again until 8:00am Saturday morning. Cost is $10 per CCC Student and it is free for friends. That's right FREE for friends, so invite all your friends out to this awesome nght!

Wizard of Oz

I remember as a kid watching The Wizard of Oz. When the movie gets to the scene where Dorthy encounters the wizard. At first the wizard was hidden away and presenting himself as this fearsome monster of a man. This scene always bothered me. Why would this great wizard want someone to think he was something he wasn't. I mean, what if Dorthy hadn't heard the wizard. Would they all have missed out on all that good stuff they got?

This whole wizard thing has always made me think about God. No, I don't think God is a wizard, but I think sometimes we treat God like the wizard from the movie. I have always heard people say things like, "God told me this" or "God told me that" and I haven't always heard God's voice. Does that mean there is something wrong with me? Does that make me not a good Christian? I don't think so. I think sometimes we are listening for the wrong thing. Sometimes we are listening for the super powerful wizard, when really he is a gentle soft spoken man. Sometimes I think we expect God to move in GIANT ways, to make lightening strike right in front of us, when really God has been talking all along in the quiet, still moments. I believe God can talk in anyway God wants to, but I think we shape our God into how we want him to sound. So today, take a moment to be still and listen for God in the silence...

For the past two days students from all over the White Marsh community have been enjoying one of the most elusive phenomenons of eduction. The snow day. So how did you spend yours? For me, I have been sledding like crazy. I have muscles aching that I didn't even know existed. I have been enjoying spending time with my wife and our two knuckle head dogs. As had free time to sit and enjoy the past few days I have also thought about what is coming, Christmas. As a kid Christmas was always about gifts. Who got what? Was their gift better then mine? Are my Christmas cards full of confetti or cash? As I have gotten older it becomes less about those gifts and more about one gift. And this gift is so much better than any GI JOE I have ever gotten. It is better then any new shirt, or pair of socks. This one gift will do more than any other gift ever given. This one gift can allow a tired, angry, sad, weary world to rejoice. This one gift can allow a world that is on the verge of giving up new hope. This one gift can't be bought at Macy's or Target. You can't find a deal for this gift on Ebay or on Craigslist. Instead this gift is free and is always available. This gift is Jesus. So as you put away the snow boots for another storm maybe this week you make room for this one gift. The gift to overshadow all other gifts.

Hey everyone! I'm super excited about the EPIC Christmas Party coming up this Sunday, December 13 from 7-9. Come dressed in your best Christmas attire (a prize will be awarded to the best Christmas outfit). Bring lots of friends and be ready to have the most fun allowed by law in the State of Maryland. Stuff to look forward to at the party:

- Lots of really AWESOME games and prizes
- Christmas snacks and drinks (Hot Cocoa, Christmas Cookies, Milk, Non-Alcoholic Eggnog, Fruitcake, etc.)
- Tons of free time to play all your favorite games (Four Square, Guitar Hero, Wii, etc.)
- Adopt-a-Family (Don't forget to bring money to help out a family that is less fortunate this Christmas)

Want to raise some money for trips this year? Threads of Hope is a non-profit organization which gives jobs and hope to women in the Philippines. You will have the opportunity to sell bracelets just like these to your friends, family, neighbors, and anyone else you can think of. You can sell them for $1, $2, or $5. Then 50% of the of what we sell we send back to the women in the Philippines and the rest will go into an account for your trips here at CCC.

Trunk or Treat 2009 was a HUGE success this year at CCC. We had a ton of people come out dressed up as anything you can imagine. From a lawn sprinkler, to a baby lion. From Green Eggs and Ham to M.I.B. For one night a year it is ok to dress up as something different and pretend we are someone else.

However, we do this on a pretty regular basis. For many of us we are not happy with who we are. So we try really hard to become something else. Maybe it is in the clothes we buy, or the music we listen to. Maybe we hang out with a certain type of person. After awhile we begin to forget who we really are. We need to remember that God created each of us to be just how we are. Everyone one has something special that needs to be unveiled. What has God created you to do?

Next Wednesday, October 28th, is the first High School IMPACT. IMPACT starts at 7:00pm and runs until 9:00pm that evening right here at CCC. Feel free to come early to grab a hot or cold drink, throw a football, or play some rockband.

At EPiC last night we talked about Noah. We said that Noah needed confidence in God during the flood and how we need confidence in Jesus to know that we are really saved. We took a break during our teaching time to see what would float or sink. Here are some of our findings:

Let's kick off the Baltimore Blast soccer season right. Friday, Nov 13 the Blast will be playing the Rockford Rampage for their season opener. After the game there will be a concert by bands Kutless, and Chasen. Tickets for this event will cost only $18. This will cover the game, transportation, and the concert. We will be meeting at CCC at 6:15pm on Friday and returning by 11:30pm. Make sure you sign up at CCC soon!

We also had a competition to see who could eat a Big Mac meal from McDonald's the fastest. Check out this video to get an idea as to how one of the meals was prepared.
